WHO COLLABORATING CENTRE FOR MENTAL HEALTH
The origin of the proposal of establishing of the WHO Collaborating Centre in
the Tehran Psychiatric Institute was requested by professor Norman Sartorius as
the head of evaluation team and his colleagues as well as Dr. A. Mohit Regional
Advisor, WHO/EMRO during the Independent Evaluation of I.R. Iran’s
National Programme of Mental Health in November 1995. Then it was followed by
health authorities of the country.
Finally, Tehran Psychiatric Institute was designated as WHO Collaborating
Centre for Mental Health by Regional Director of WHO/EMRO on the 1st of May
1997 and was officially openned by Dr. H. Al. Gezairy RD, WHO/EMRO on the 2nd
of June 1998.

activities are research, training, technical support of implementation of
National Mental Health Programme, and mental health services.
